Training Solutions utilises our experienced full time instructors, who have worked in the offshore sector themselves, to fully equip the delegates with the necessary procedures. One of the first things we do is to put the delegates at ease, ensuring that they are in the most receptive frame of mind and therefore able to react in any given situation. Colin McMurray – Clyde Training Solutions Director Colin’s career began with BP Shipping Ltd where he started as a Deck Cadet before rising through the ranks to become 2nd Officer. After working as Chief Officer and Fleet Training Officer with Seacat Fast Ferries for around five years before joining Clyde Marine Training in 2004 and subsequently becoming General Manager before moving to Managing Director in 2008. Colin is a Fellow of IMarEST and is a member of the Board of Trustees for the Sailor Society and Glasgow Humane Society. As a leading industry figure, Colin is also a board member of the Merchant Navy Training and City of Glasgow College, and sits on the Industry Leadership Group for Aerospace, Defence, Marine and Space. Each Delegate is looked after individually, catering to their particular needs, in order that on completion of training they will be able to travel to and from offshore installations on board helicopters with the knowledge that should the worst happen they are as prepared as can be.’’ OGI: Could you go into more detail about your new facility in Clydebank. McMurray: Our purpose-built centre offers multiple classrooms, deep-water pool, HUET, and full fire training ground complete with training stack and helideck. We think about all aspects of the candidate’s training experience, however, and that includes the provision of high-quality freshly prepared on-site meals. We also took the conscious decision to locate ourselves centrally, receiving the benefits of being based on the River Clyde, with fantastic transport access by plane and train and with the added benefit of over 100 car-parking spaces on site. In gaining full OPITO Training Centre approval in Jan 2017, we became the 200th centre worldwide to gain this certification, and it is something we are immensely proud of. We hope that by building this world-class facility and investing heavily in highly qualified trainers, we are demonstrating our support and belief in the oil and gas sector which is showing encouraging signs of moving back towards sustainable growth. Our 4-acre site provides us with the scope continue to continue to expand, bringing further classrooms and training space to the site and adding further capability to cater for the growing market, and we already have some exciting plans to be announced in early 2018.” OGI: Finally, could you enlighten our readers of a case study where you helped a client with your solutions? McMurray: Although our focus is primarily offshore and maritime, we have delivered vital HUET training to the Scottish Air Ambulance Service (SAAS) who regularly operate over water. Members of the special unit of the SAAS underwent both pool-based HUET with PSTAS training, as well as Basic Fire Fighting during a one day visit to the CTS centre. Organisations not governed by OPITO, such as these ambulance services, can receive bespoke courses, tailored to fulfill their requirements. Everyone involved commented on the efficiency of the training program as well as the accessibility of the centre, and it was especially pleasing to receive comments along the lines of: ‘The trainers were very reassuring as the submergence in the HUET can be nerve- wracking but it was reassuring that there were so many trainers and support divers there in the pool with us.’ Bespoke work has been part of our DNA within Clyde Marine Training and The Clyde Group for the last 10 years, and is something we will continue to focus on providing to the benefit of our clients.” OGI: Thank you for your time • If you would like to know more about how Clyde Training Solutions can help your company and its operations, please get in contact with them by contacting: Clyde Training Solutions +44 (0)141 427 9411 https://clydetrainingsolutions.com customerservices@clydetrainingsolutions.com “The main benefit we offer the offshore industry in Scotland is a centrally based training centre that offers the highest quality training..”
