Work as a team Twelve hours later and their fire was still not lit. Sam and Jack persevered for almost 20 hours, huddled over their precious tinder, repeatedly striking the flint without giving up. And eventually, they produced a small ember, which meant warmth, cooked food and drinking water! Two teams were unknowingly dropped off in close proximity and when they found themselves face-to-face they had to make a decision to either continue as two teams, or combine forces. They decided to combine into a foursome and so commenced one of the most gruelling and mentally challenging episodes of the season. If they had given up, Sam and Jack would not have survived.
