Delano Athletic Club
The Delano Athletic Club was founded in 1948 by Father
Handzel, Perry Ditty, Valentine “Dutch” Styrbicky, and Fred Parsons.
The organization’s purpose is to help improve local baseball and
softball facilities and support youth and adult athletic programs.
Current officers are President Steve Eilen, Vice President Jack
Lynch, Secretary Mark Petersen, and Treasurer Brent Soderberg.
Approximately 20 other active members are involved, with
meetings generally once per month.
The DAC has spear-headed many projects over the years,
including installing the light towers on the main baseball field in
1948, new LED lighting in 2019, numerous re-surfacing projects and
providing the irrigation system to the field.
More recently, the DAC headed the field renovation
projects, which include a new scoreboard, stadium seating in the
grandstand, premium deck seating, back-stop netting, a new
concession stand and a pavilion area enclosed with decorative
fencing.

Delano Boy Scout Troop 273
The Delano Boy Scout Troop 273 was founded in the 1940s.
The purpose of the organization is to provide an educational
program for boys and young adults to build character and
leadership skills.
There are about 45 members in the organization, which meets
Mondays in the community room above the Heritage Center or at
the Delano American Legion from 7 to 8:15 p.m. The first Monday of
the month is Patrol Leader Council from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., followed
by the adult leader/interested parent meeting from 7:30 to 8:30
p.m. This boy-led troop empowers boys to be leaders by allowing
them to develop a troop program and then take responsibility for
figuring out how to achieve their goals. They accomplish this by
electing a senior patrol leader and then organizing into groups of
patrols under the guidance of the scoutmaster.
The troop camps or overnights each month and does high
adventure trips such as mountain treks in New Mexico and seabase
ocean trips in Florida, and other activities. Special projects or events
include highway cleanups, the Fourth of July pop stand, wreath
sales, and camping trips.
Anyone over the age of 11 interested in joining is invited to visit any
meeting. Visit https://delano273.mytroop.us/ for more information.
