1. Points will be compiled on a one horse/one contestant
basis in Youth and Adult Special Needs events with the
exception of Showmanship points. Showmanship points
will remain with the exhibitor.
2. Points are to be awarded on the same basis used in regular
division classes.
3. In the event a horse is sold, a new start must be
made by the new owner.
4. Adult Special Needs classes will require a minimum of six
(6) points to qualify for the AMHA Honor Roll. All other
ownership rules outlines in this section and Honor Roll
rules outlined in PA-025-A will apply.
Refer to YD-010-D for other requirements regarding points
in Youth classes. Refer to PA-010 for point requirements in
regular division classes.
E. Only mares or geldings are to be shown in Youth Special
Needs classes.
F.
Only pattern No. 1 is to be used in Special Needs
Showmanship classes. See CL-080 for other Showmanship
rules.
H. Special Needs exhibitors shall be excused from wearing the
required attire, except in Showmanship classes. (Amended

I. In Special Needs classes, exhibitors shall be lined up with
at least two (2) horse lengths between each exhibitor.

J. All exhibitors must follow the driving class general rules in
CL-030 with the exception that headers in the line-up are
required. An adult or senior youth (13-18) shall be permitted
to accompany the driver. An optional header may be allowed
in the arena throughout the whole class. The header must
stand quietly where the ring steward indicates and shall not

Headers for Youth Special Needs classes (all ages) are
optional (except driving) and may enter the ring during the
class with the youth. Headers for Adult Special Needs classes
are optional (except driving) and may enter the ring during
the class with the Adult. (Amended 02-08, effective 01-09)
Youth or Special Needs driving classes requiring an
accompanying person for safety, (Adult for all Youth
classes), requires that the accompanying person remain in
the cart at all times until the exhibitor leaves the arena. A
separate header will be required for all youth drivers with an
accompanying adult. The accompanying adult will not assist
the driver verbally or physically.
The touching of the driver by hand will constitute assistance.
The accompanying adult’s hands must remain on the seat,
on the cart, or in their own lap. Any assistance will result in
automatic disqualification of that entry.
