Domhnall Gleeson follows up his hopping-mad turn as Thomas McGregor in Peter Rabbit with an equally splendid , albeit far more serious performance , this time as Faraday , a country doctor called to assist the residents of the rundown Hundreds Hall – a once-grand estate dating back to the 18th century .
There , he becomes acquainted with the family matriarch Mrs . Ayres ( Charlotte Rampling ), her unmarried daughter Caroline ( Ruth Wilson ) and her disfigured son Roderick ( Will Poulter ) who is struggling to cope with the physical and mental scars of warfare . Soon things are going bump in the night and the name ‘ Susan ’ keeps being mentioned . But who is she and what harm does she wish on this frightened family ?
It ’ s been an incredible year for the horror genre and The Little Stranger continues this trend . This is a terrifically creepy adaptation of Sarah Waters ’ acclaimed book .
