4 LEIA ORGANA Episodes III-IX Played with heart and fire by the late Carrie Fisher, Leia is the Disney princess every little girl should aspire to be. May the Force be with her. Always. 3 DARTH VADER Episodes III-VI Is there anyone in the western world of a certain age who couldn’t name Darth Vader if they saw a picture of him? We’re doubtful. Simply put, he’s cinema’s greatest villain! LUKE SKYWALKER Episodes III-IX It’s impossible to imagine the Star Wars universe without its poster boy. From the wide-eyed cub of A New Hope to the grizzled sensei of The Last Jedi, we’ve lived alongside Mark Hamill’s former farmboy for 42 years, and he’s still the one we’re pretending to be when we borrow our kids’ toy lightsabers. If Rise really is the character’s last hurrah, expect him to go out with a bigger bang than a thermal detonator. Best moment: The saga-defining scene in A New Hope where the still- fledging Jedi switches off his X-Wing’s targeting computer and trusts his instincts. “Use the Force, Luke. Let go!” Even after all these years, we still exhale loudly with him when he presses fire and the missiles hit home. A shot in a million indeed! 2 REY Episodes VII-IX Even the most pure-hearted Jedi have the potential to turn to the Dark Side. Will Rey succumb in The Rise of Skywalker? It would be the ultimate Star Wars twist! Awakens, as a new evil emerges in the form of the First Order. With Luke in exile, it falls to scrap- trader Rey to lead the fight against über-villain Kylo Ren, but in Episode VIII: The Last Jedi, she too is showing a tendency towards the Dark Side... No wonder all bets are off when it comes to The Rise of Skywalker! Watch the trailer Disagree with our touch countdown?
