An update of the 1974 cult classic of the same name, which starred Margot ‘Lois Lane’ Kidder as Barb, it sees a group of female college students ferociously fighting back when a masked stranger begins picking them off during their winter break. The original film (there was a 2006 remake too, but the less said about that one the better) deftly mixed tension and violence – it’s pretty hardcore in places – with an intelligent plot that not only kept you guessing but had characters doing sensible things (like calling the police rather than exploring the attic alone). This Blumhouse production does the same, while also adding several intriguing sub- plots. (What’s Cary Elwes’ deal we wonder?) It all adds up to anything but a silent night! The first Boy movie, released in 2016, was 6 DEC an absolute cracker, filled with twists, turns and a terrific central performance from The Walking Dead’s Lauren Cohan as Greta, a nanny tasked with taking care of a life-like porcelain doll named Brahms. Brahms is back this December, and with Greta having wisely fled the premises, he’s training his dead doll eyes on a new victim: Katie Holmes’ impressionable young son. Be afraid, be very afraid! She would go on to star in 128 episodes of this game-changing TV show, which celebrated its 20th anniversary last year. Holmes was married to actor Tom Cruise for 6 years. A supercouple in the eyes of the media, they were given the nickname TomKat. Black Christmas December ODEON.co.uk 15
