Fresh from his dazzling turn as the motor-mouthed Genie in Aladdin, Smith voices Lance Sterling, the “world’s most awesome spy”. Determined to stay one step ahead of the game, Lance is intrigued when Holland’s nerdy young scientist Walter informs him of a new invention he’s working on that will “change spying forever”. The curious Lance visits Walter’s house to find out more about this “next generation concealment” tech, but then disaster! He accidentally drinks the experiment – which is still a work in progress – and promptly turns into a pigeon. Will Lance be able to save the world when he’s only a few inches tall? Flying into theatres on Boxing Day, this is terrific family fun. Aided 20 DEC by his all-star cast (which in addition to those on the left includes James Corden, Judi Dench, Jennifer Hudson and Ray Winstone), Hooper has produced a wonderfully faithful take that will thrill both Webber fans and film fans alike. Yes, the CGI takes a little getting used to, but the quality of the songs and singing is such that goose- bumps are guaranteed.
