Early publicity for Disney’s live-action Aladdin remake
has raised more questions than it answers. Let’s discuss...
So far (at time of writing,
at least) all we’ve really seen
of Guy Ritchie’s Aladdin
movie – the latest in a series
of live-action remakes from
Disney – is two short teaser
trailers (that were just that:
teasers!) – and a few press
shots of the three main
players: Mena Massoud’s
street rat Aladdin, Naomi
Scott’s Princess Jasmine and
Will Smith’s motormouthed
Genie. While we have
complete and utter faith in
both Guy and the House of
Mouse, there are some things
we’re desperate to know...

What kind of genie will Will
Smith be? We doubt he’ll try
and replicate Robin Williams’
iconic performance, but it’s so
integral to the original, how
will the Fresh Prince play it?

If ‘Friend Like Me’ isn’t sung in
full, then we may have to riot.

Will Jasmine be a proactive
protagonist? She didn’t have a
whole heap to do in the original,
but Ritchie’s heroines tend
to be gutsy-as-heck. Fingers
crossed that’s the case here.
