Reilly, Ralph Fiennes See it in iSense Tinkering with a classic character (especially one as beloved as Mary Poppins) was always going to be risky, but in this wonderful Disney sequel, Emily Blunt carries it off with aplomb. Just like Julie Andrews in the 1964 original, her English nanny is practically perfect in every way with just the right mix of sweetness and sass. Based on P. L. Travers’ Poppins novels, the story this time is set several decades after the original, in Depression-era London. Jane and Michael Banks are now grown-up, although Michael still lives in the same house on Cherry Tree Lane with three children of his own. Following the death of Michael’s wife, father and kids are struggling to cope. Can Mary restore laughter to the Banks household, just as she did all those years ago? Whatever your age, this magical musical will go down in the most delightful way. 21 DEC FOR MORE MARY, turn to p23 14 odeon.co.uk In this hilarious take on Sir Arthur Conan 26 DEC Doyle’s classic mystery stories, legendary detective Sherlock Holmes and his sidekick Doctor Watson must team up to solve a murder at Buckingham Palace.
