With projects, quizzes, exams, midterms, and other piles of work in front of them, CKI’ers left their problems behind as they embraced into a journey that would start on an unpaved road leading to the middle of no where. The weekend was filled with team building activities, group competitions, training for positions, and preparing for the upcoming school year. Everyone was forced to make new friends by being put into groups with people from all over Florida. Group chants, dances, names, and posters were made giving each member an opportunity to contribute to the identity of team they would be in for the rest of the weekend. Those who were loud learned to listen, while the quite ones spoke out more than usual. Teams competed in a lip sync battle which was Jimmy Fallon /American Idol style judged by our very own Kiwanians. In case anyone was wondering, the fun role of Simon Cowell was all too happily undertaken by Matthew Cantrall. Keeping up with tradition, there was a pie auction to raise money for the Eliminate Project… the pictures below are proof of how much fun those were. A service project was also incorporated, making chew toys for dogs out of old t-shirts. Besides helping the dogs there was a service to the world by teaching some boys how to braid (you know who you are). Imagine playing dodgeball with water balloons while people are squirting and dumping buckets of water on you. To say the least it was tough to win but with team work, in the end, everyone got soaked making the balloon tournament the highlight of the weekend. Of course it helped that Camp Kiwanis has a beautiful lake where everyone got to go swim afterwards. There was so much of dancing, singing, and playing that one couldn’t help but forget about school, work, and the world outside CKI. Even the Kiwanians had some fun when Kiwanis Governor Celia Early got tricked into doing Proud Mary , in which of course everyone joined in. We took the time, it may have caused us to stay up late every night the following week, or only get 9 hours of sleep over the course of three days (just ask Jessica Cook, Michelle Ocampo or Natalie Alvarez), but it was all worth it. Those who attended LTC became even more passionate servant leaders than they were before. We bonded with new friends we never thought we could make and even stepped out of our comfort zones multiple times. Leadership 2 Training Conference really embraced what Circle K International is all about: service, leadership, and fellowship. Thank you to all of those who attended and contributed to this amazing weekend.
