RACE REVIEW: D12 UK OCR CHAMPIONSHIPS
Obstacles!
Dirty Dozen make their
obstacles BIG! Big walls, big
rope nets, incredibly muddy
ditches to get through with big
muddy banks on the other side
(careful not to lose a shoe!), a
long tire drag and more...
These are not obstacles for
the faint hearted! !
!
The construction is solid and
they also nail an oft-neglected
area: planning the course to
minimise queues. You get a
real sense of this as you go
round (at least if you're a
seasoned OCR'er you do!)
that certain things had been
done a certain way in order to
slow down traffic and avoid
queues building up. Brilliant. !
a non-runner I would prefer to
have the lengths of running
broken up by fun things to do
on the way round!!
!
Water Stations!
Three water stations on the
1 8 k m , l o t s o f w a t e r, a l l
manned by friendly marshalls. !
!
Finish Line!
The Beard was there to greet
everyone that crossed the line,
and the MC, Mark Leinster,
was also really encouraging
and upbeat, and created a
great atmosphere. You ended
up in the event village so there
were lots of spectators, music
and the smell of burgers
cooking...!
!
Medal / Swag!
Medal for those who finished
all three Dirty Dozen distances
in the year (6km, 12km and
18km), a t-shirt and bobble hat
for everyone, plus a glass of
beer and some water. !
!
!
There were a few natural
obstacles – a river crossing,
little hill slalom's and a run
around a conveniently-sited
motorbike track being a few.
The only reason I've not given
them 5 stars is because I
would like there to be more –
18km is a long course and as
Festival / Spectator Friendly!
There was a kids OCR running
alongside, plus a food van onsite. The venue also had it's
own entertainment – a bungee
jump thing and a playground.!
!
FINAL WORDS!
Just a quality event with
friendly staff, a great
atmosphere and also
managing to cater to both
hardcore runners and OCR
beginners alike. Definitely
recommended!
