Tell us a bit about yourself and how you
got into OCR?
I
’m Doug ”The Beard” Spence and
I’m Race Director and Co-Founder
of Dirty Dozen Races. A friend told
me about an event called Tough
Guy and I knew immediately that I’d
love it so we booked up straight but in my
haste, I booked into the kids race by
mistake. We had such a good laugh on their
brilliant obstacles (and missed out on most of
the running) but loved it non the less.

I come from a competitive background and
was always surrounded by people that were
just fit and didn’t need a reason to train but
when I started working in the city, I realized
this was not the case for most people, they
do need a reason to train.
For me, it was about creating a fun and
interesting goal. I wanted to create
something exciting and not exclusive. OCR is
for everyone and I hope people can see that
Dirty Dozen is friendly and welcoming to all.

I believe Dirty Dozen Races offers a great
goal for people to train for but is also a great
lifestyle brand for people to buy into and stay
motivated by offering new courses and
obstacles to keep people motivated for
longer (years) as opposed to just
one race.
