Meet TRAVIS BAIN

Local filmmaker , Travis Bain will premiere his latest production , Landfall , in Cairns in December . The 99-minute film is a crime thriller about a post-heist home invasion at a beach house during a cyclone .
“ Landfall was 100 % conceived and made here in the North ,” Bain says . “ So even though it ’ ll appeal to anyone in the world who likes a good thriller , it ’ ll have special resonance here because it ’ s set in familiar surroundings … and weather !”

Landfall is about a young couple trapped in their beach house by three armed fugitives carrying a mysterious sealed Esky , and they must rely on their wits and cunning to survive as a savage cyclone looms .
Bain says his team went to great lengths to bring the film ’ s severe cyclone to life , using industrial fans , high-pressure hoses , and some large helpings of digital magic to create the illusion of a savage storm in postproduction .
“ We have over 100 visual effects shots in Landfall , so it ’ s like a mini disaster movie as well as a crime thriller ,” Bain says . “ And Monster Fest Travelling SideShow Cairns is a fantastic event to launch it locally . They ’ re got a great line-up of genre films over three days that are normally hard to go and see outside the capital cities .”
The low-budget film was shot last year at Flying Fish Point and Coquette Point , and is Bain ’ s follow-up to his successful monster movie Throwback , which was a major success at Cairns Festival 2014 . Starring veteran Australian actors Vernon Wells ( Mad Max 2 , Throwback ) and Tony Bonner ( Skippy , The Lighthorsemen ), alongside local actors including Daryl Heath , Andy Bramble , Shawn Brack and Anthony Ring , Landfall is not to be missed .
Landfall will premiere at Event Cinemas Cairns Central on Friday 8th December at 7pm as the opening night lm for onster est ravelling SideShow Cairns , followed by a lmmaers session . icets are $ 21 or $ 17.50 for concessions .
