CAIRNS ZOOm
The Cairns Wildlife Dome has always been a favourite
sanctuary for our family during the Far Northern Wet
Season. Its massive glass dome provides the perfect
umbrella during those wet tropical downpours. It’s a great
place to wander around in a natural rainforest setting and
enjoy all sorts of native Australian animals that (mostly)
free-roam around the enclosure. Thankfully Goliath, the
4-5 metre Saltie stays put in his own habitat, though!

BEAT THE HEAT
Summer is the time when locals turn their back on the
beaches around Cairns and head inland to dip and frolic
in the natural watershed that cascades off the foothills
of Cairns. These rivers provide the perfect escape
from the heat and humidity of the wet season. Head to
Crystal Cascades, Stony Creek Falls, Freshwater Creek,
Goombora Park, Ross n Locke, Behana Gorge or any
one of the other gorgeous freshwater swimming holes.
And always remember to be sun smart!

We love it here – so much so that the kids have membership
cards and we can pop along and let them ‘swing’ on the
high ropes and dangle over Goliath, the 4 metre crocodile
anytime we want. Every time we visit,
we seem to
always bump into Sam, who’s
the ZOOm Team Leader
and our kids Number
One choice for when
they do the Power
Jump and the
Dome Climb.
LASER FUN
Another ideal indoors activity that I can’t recommend
LaserFUN highly enough.
Located on the Brown Street side of DFO, this huge area
is an exciting arena based activity for players aged 6 and
up and is a great way to keep the kids active, and dry
these school holidays!
Laserfun has strategic game-modes for
advanced players, or simple zap-the-
players mayhem for beginners! All this can
be found in a fully air-conditioned venue!
It’s fun, active, safe and requires
teamwork and communication - all those
things to keep the kids learning, without
them even realising it! LaserFun
really is awesome fun for
kids, adults and everyone in-
between!
