Chinese New Year Food Tasting Week
Cooking Activities
February 2016
Over the weeks the children have really begun to enjoy
cooking and are always eager and excited to know what is
being cooked on a Thursday afternoon. Recently the children
have had the opportunity to see and join in with the cooking
process from scratch with foods such as biscuits, fairy cakes,
pizzas and also making a sandwich. They are beginning to
understand instructions and attempt to read them and are
aware recipes have to be followed. We encourage all parents to come in and support their children during cooking
and appreciate that extra help and support in the classroom.
We would like to thank parents for their kind donations of £1
a week. Insha’Allah your continued support will allow the
children to develop and strive further in their learning.
Knowledge of World & Transport
February 2016
Over the last two weeks children have been learning about
other countries such as, Australia and China. The children have
been really interested and eager to learn about the weather in
other countries as well as foods eaten, transport and wildlife
animals. To help their knowledge develop children have had
the opportunity to look at transport used in other countries and
using various materials have made a range of transports. In
addition, they have had the opportunity to focus on the book
‘There is No Room for Baby Roo’ which has sparked interest to
learn about Kangaroos so over the week the children have
learnt about the life cycle of a Kangaroo.
Children really enjoyed the Chinese New Year food
tasting week where they were given the opportunity to
taste a various range of Chinese food such as, noodles,
egg fried rice, chicken corn soup, prawn crackers and
spring rolls. Children were able to express their likes
and dislikes in terms of the multicultural foods that they
sampled over the week. They learnt about the Chinese
New year and the story behind how it all began with the
Emperor setting a race for 13 animals and then choosing 12 runners up to complete the Chinese zodiac.
Stranger Danger & People Who Help
Us
February 2016
The children learnt about what safe strangers are and how
they can keep themselves safe when they are out and about.
To make them aware of safe strangers we had told the children who they may go to and ask for help. During the two
weeks we had a doctor visit and a nurse visit the school and
talk to the children about their role and how they help when
children are sick or poorly. Children got to look at the various items used by both doctors and nurses such as, plasters, stethoscope, and thermometer.
