Key working Groups
All nursery children are designated a Key-worker in
our setting. A key-worker has a special responsibility
to a small group of children. Your child’s key-worker
can be found on the notices in the Nursery entrance
corridor.
Nursery Home Visits
Our Nursery team conduct Home Visits and offer Taster
Sessions prior to all new children joining our setting. This
will help our staff get to know children and families better
and with the children settling in to Nursery with some
familiarity of friendly faces.
A key-workers role is to ensure your child’s needs
are recognised within nursery, are addressed on an
individual basis and are assessed in the Early Years
Progress Tracker.
A key-worker will help a child settle into nursery,
assist with and provide opportunities for Early Years
targets to be met, and is the first point of contact for
parents with concerns about their child.
Any parent who wishes to have feedback on their
child’s progress at nursery can ask a member of
staff at any time or make an arrangement to see
their child’s key worker.
Nursery Reading Books
The children in Nursery are now taking home reading books with
a reading record. They are picture books showing a story board
in pictures where children can explain in their own words what
they can see happening in the pictures. Parents can supervise
and encourage their child with the reading books and write a
quick note in the reading record.
Books that are lost or damaged will incur a £5 fine

Lending Library
The lending library system encourages your child to
choose their own books to take home and learn
how to look after them.
We have a new scanning system in place to scan
books before borrowing so staff are aware which
books have been lent out and are due return. We
hope to begin putting this system to full use in
September 2015.
We would like to invite parents to borrow books
from our library to take home and share with your
c hild. Talk to your child about the story and ask
them questions about what has happened and what
was enjoyed most.
Borrowing is free, all we ask is that books are
returned in the same condition they were borrowed.
New book contributions are most welcome!
Healthy Times!
Healthy eating is promoted in our Early Years. We
have a Healthy Eating Packed Lunch Policy in place
and leaflets are available for parents, please ask a
staff member for one.
All Nursery and Reception children must bring in
their own healthy snacks for break-time, such as
fruit, crackers with cheese and salad or yoghurt and
a drink of water or fruit juice.
Parents who are providing packed lunches please
supply healthy options and as time allows why
not talk to your child about healthy eating and let
your child help select and prepare their own food.
Healthy lunch items can include:
Sandwiches – brown bread with cheese, tuna,
egg and salad,
Pasta
Rice or chapatti with curry
Noodles
Salad vegetables and dip
Fruit
According to our policy we cannot allow children
to eat chocolate (including chocolate spread in
sandwiches), biscuits, crisps, peanut products
or fizzy/ sugary drinks as part of their lunch.
