o The Shadow of What Remains / La sombra de lo que queda 1. “ ong Within”: is the pain recognized, S exhaled, sealed and labeled in the 100 white vessels with the initials of each participant. 2. “ e Shadow of What Remains”: Th these are 100 black vessels that symbolize mourning and face the white vessels. The crowns are all different and with different symbolic meanings, but all represent the coronation, meaning reaching a high point. After several sketches, I made them in wax and later cast them in metal using the ancient lost wax technique. For the crowns of the trees of the small figures of women, I used the same system that is used in serial production of individual pieces in one casting. For many jewelers it is a simple process to carry out a production series (replication), but I did it with the intention of producing a unique object each time. The beauty of these trees comes from their symbolic aspect: I wanted to show that we all have the same origin or ancestry and lineage, giving all of them a figure of a woman being born from one central trunk or nucleus. mm Expo. They are bathed in gold and in matte silver and represent the 32 neighborhoods of origin of the participants in the City of Cartagena. They symbolize the rebirth of the women. The dome also has 1,320 metal figures bathed in gold that correspond to the number of women who denounced their partners to the authorities for physical mistreatment in 2012 and 2013. I elaborated the figures of the women based on a scanned three-dimensional image of a real woman, which I later printed in this same system, in different sizes. BLACK RENAISSANCE NOIRE I was also inspired by the variety of vessels belonging to Pre-Colombian cultures, which were used for different functions; however, I highlight in my work those used for sacred purposes, those urns with supernatural powers. I divided the artwork into three stages: BRN-SPRING-2015.indb 81 3/29/15 11:42 AM
