NYU Black Renaissance Noire Spring 2015 - Page 75

POEMS BY MANUEL ORESTES NIETO TRASLATED BY JAVIER MEDINA BERNAL Selected by Salvador Medina Barahona Let the blood of time settle. Let the slime become compact, let time take its course, let us forget this fleeting and lethal episode, during which life was crucified and those of us who were here were wiped out. Meanwhile, let us sleep our death without resurrection. Different times will come, we will return from cavities, from tangles, from our broken skulls and from the dust of our bones; we will return from the shadows and the depths, from the mass graves and the pulverized skeletons. And the same miracle of all beginnings will occur: a single outbreak of water and light will be enough to start again.
