My inclination has always been to find patterns and formulas to explain creativity . Through performance , musicians in particular can provide a unique window into how that process is realized .
And so , aside from catching the definitive moment all concert photographers are seeking for their publications , I ’ ve also tried to capture the breath or space that precede these instances . It is here where I find the artist to be the least self-curative and the most inhibited .
When shooting portraits , I have been known to ask the artists about their creative methods . Most view themselves as conduits of creativity and thus my work often features them as static amidst props and lighting that work to visually translate the aesthetic of their artistic endeavors .
