We want to end this analysis by stating that the legitimacy of auteurism lies not in one film but in many . A director ’ s ‘ creative signature ’ on his cinematic productions is a direct function of his exceptional push to derive a stylistic persona . With the birth of New-Nollywood auteurs , the industry is gradually turning away from the ‘ executive producer ’ era , when films were made with the prime motive of churning out large quantities of poorly finished vcds and dvds , hoping for a massive returns on investment with no attention to excellence . We have now safely arrived in the age of “ Neo-Nollywood ,” to quote Okome in the ‘ afterword ’ of the first ever book on auteurism in Nigerian cinema , dedicated to a single film of a Nigerian director : Auteuring Nollywood : Critical Perspectives on the Figurine . Auteurs who wield supreme control over their films from pre-production to distribution and exhibition are gradually being celebrated in Nigeria , and at their vanguard are filmmakers like Tunde Kelani and Kunle Afolayan . These are filmmakers who are successfully harnessing the strengths of new digital technologies through an indigenous harmonization of the commercialism of the domestic film types and the craftsmanship of the already established ‘ proper film language / grammar .’ Tunde Kelani speaking in a documentary entitled , Red Hot Nigerian Creativity , premiered in 2011 by Communication for Change states that they are filmmakers who live in Africa and have been able to satisfy the yearnings and aspirations
of the continental and global black audience . Nigerian auteurs achieve this feat by finding a connection between their work and the African audience . Though not funded , they have been able to strike the right cord in African audiences , and suddenly , Africans are responding positively to the Nigerian example . n
