The industrialist Adolf Törngren was impatient . In 1849 , he had inherited the Nuutajärvi Manor and , with it , the glass village . Törngren , 27 and very keen , decided to overhaul the sleepy glass village completely . Making window glass wasn ’ t enough – there had to be something that would sell well , bring fame and have international appeal ! To realize his dream , Törngren fired nearly all the Finnish employees and started to recruit skilled people from continental Europe . Before that , he had practically rebuilt the whole glass village . He wanted to provide impressive conditions for the foreign glassblowers coming from continental cities . To design this massive construction project , he turned to the most renowned architect of his time , Georg Theodor Chiewitz .
