Nursing Year in Review 2018 | Page 4

A message from Pat Givens We do it for the kids. Each and every day at Children’s Hospital Colorado our nurses and multidisciplinary team members provide excellent care to every child that walks through our doors. In 2018, our nurses asked high-level, goal-oriented questions that foster a culture of innovation, and a commitment to improving patient care. It’s collaborative work that leads to the many recognitions we receive. The stories you’ll find in this report demonstrate that we are committed to strengthening the research culture in nursing, advocating for strong educational opportunities, and contributing to excellence in pediatric healthcare. Measuring and maintaining the highest standards of patient care delivery requires a collaborative approach across care settings. Our Patient Care Services (PCS) team members provide a continuum of care across Children’s Hospital Colorado and our network of care sites. We recognize our Registered Nurses (RN), Respiratory Therapists (RT), Medical Librarians, Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT), Medical Assistants (MA), Clinical Assistants (CA), Mental Health Counselors (MHC), Exercise Specialists, Surgical Technologists and PCS leaders in clinical care for developing innovative solutions and initiating interdisciplinary collaboration to improve patient care through our partnerships. Our efforts would be less successful if we did not have your support. As you reflect on a successful year and share in the accomplishments we’ve all strived for, recognize that we are a community. A community, not only as caregivers and nurses, but also as educators, researchers, collaborators and champions for children. I feel strongly that our values make a difference every day. We provide high-quality care, fueled by a commitment to set ambitious goals. It all leads back to our simple and unwavering “Why?” We do it for the kids. I want to thank you for being a team and building on past achievements and the achievements of those around you. Your professionalism, kindness and unwavering dedication is why we are a designated Magnet hospital and consistently setting the gold standard for nursing practices. Our success continues to show up in our daily outcomes with our patients and their families. It’s an honor that we’re all recognized for our shared excellence in nursing. I know we have so much to look forward to as we work together to advance healthcare for children and families in all locations where we provide care.
