Frances Zahra
Student Academic Support Officer
Frances has always been a local within the
Sydney area, attending school in both
Annandale and Strathfield. She studied at the
University of Notre Dame in Broadway, where
she completed a Bachelor of Commerce and
majored in
Marketing and Public Relations. After
graduating from University, Frances worked in
Events Management, however, she eventually
realised that her passion was to teach. After
returning to University and completing her
Graduate Diploma in Education, Frances began
working within high schools, teaching English.
Although she enjoyed teaching students, she
realised the importance of student welfare,
which became more of a concern for her.
So, when Frances’ brother, Dom, a UNSW
student heavily involved with Nura Gilli,
suggested she apply for the role of Student
Academic Support Officer, she jumped at the
opportunity to apply, as she knew her passion
was to support students.
As Student Academic Support Officer,
Frances’ role has involved assisting students
with their ability to comprehend assessments
and organising tutors. Her work focuses on the
academic aspects of the operations of Nura Gili.
Frances credits the selfless staff at Nura Gili as
one of the rewarding aspects of being involved
with the unit, who she says are “willing to drop
everything” if at any time she needs assistance.
Her role as Student Academic Support Officer,
has given her the opportunity to work alongside
students, where she is able to find satisfaction
in knowing that she is able to help with students
and their academics.
Erin, Virginia and Frances are all valuable staff members of Nura Gili, with years of
experience in both Education and Academia. We’re all excited to work alongside
them in the near future, as they are vital assets to the functions of Nura Gili.
So please make them feel welcome and don’t be afraid to say hi and have a yarn!
