Social Services Assistance “I had a stroke in 2013 and haven’t been able to work since. SNAP helps me stretch my budget further for my family.” - Cal, Social Services Assistance client NTFB’s Social Services Assistance team helps people access the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, formerly known as food stamps) through direct application assistance, our Virtual Help Center, and our Social Services Center located at our Distribution Center in Southwest Dallas. The Food Bank partners with the Texas Health and Human Services Commission to provide application assistance for programs like SNAP, Medicaid, TANF, and CHIP. Team members visit Partner Agencies, community centers and other locations to provide application assistance at a location convenient to the client. Thanks to GSNAP, a unique partnership with Feeding America and Google, more than 3,500 North Texans received local information about food pantries and other social services through online searches for food assistance. In total, last year NTFB facilitated more than 25 million meals through our SNAP outreach with an estimated $67 million in SNAP funds distributed into the economy of our service area.
