Power protection for different needs In short, the job of a UPS is to protect against the top nine power problems below: 1. Power failure - standby, line interactive and on-line solutions Typically caused by lightning strike or fault with the power company’s equipment. Without a UPS, this will cause a hard shutdown, putting data at risk. 2. Power Sag (standby, line interactive and on-line solutions) Short-term voltage reduction, often caused by start-up of nearby large loads. Power sags can cause equipment crashes and hardware damage. 3. Power surge (standby, line interactive and on-line solutions) Short-term high voltage, usually caused by lightning strike nearby. Spikes very often lead to data loss and/or hardware damage. Typical usage of standby UPS solutions (power problems 1-3)  Desktop PCs  CCTV equipment  EPOS tills
