The champion team sealed top place at the carnival with a victory against 3Bde that followed a win against 1Bde. The Territorians were competitive but inaccuracy in front of goal cost them the match. On the last evening, 1Bde defeated 3Bde to fi nish in second place overall. Executive offi cer Army AFL COL Damian Hill said the carnival, now in its fi fth year, was an important part of the selection process for Army’s national teams. They will compete against the other services in Melbourne during March 2018. “Army has men and women playing, coaching and offi ciating at elite levels across Australia, whether it be in the AFLW, NEAFL or other State level competitions,” COL Hill said. “This carnival is about fi nding the next generation of ‘soldier athletes’,” he said. “From the quality of play I saw during the week, we will continue to be well represented in 2018. “Army’s coaches have a tough job ahead of them selecting teams and the footage taken will support those soldiers seeking selection to elite clubs.” Townsville’s Premier Gentlemen’s Club Come & play with us Now Starring - Miss Dannii Rockett Bucks Parties, Functions and Promotional Events Open Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 8pm 1/151 Flinders Street, Townsville Ph: 0448 840 089 OCTOBER 2017 | 51
