Nigel said he had only been
able to replicate some aspects
of the iconic Sallyman truck
with the “fantastic” support
from home led by Penni.
“She started a Facebook
group where people who
wanted to support the Diggers
overseas could send care
packages,” Nigel said.
So, for 2⁄ months, he
stockpiled the gifts from home,
and, when it mattered, he was
able to distribute highly-valued
Aussie treats like vegemite
and Tim Tam biscuits.
“I loved it,” Nigel said,
and when he was off ered
the opportunity to visit
Aussie Diggers operating
outside the wire, he again
leapt at the chance.
Wearing body armour,
and a smile too bright to
be hidden if it became
necessary, Nigel visited
Australian and British troops
in the throes of mentoring
Afghani soldiers and offi cers,
including on the fi ring range.
