TEXAS STATE CLINIC TEXAS NSCA STATE CLINIC On May 29th, 2014 the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist® (CSCS®) and NSCA Certified Personal Trainer® (NSCA-CPT®) examinations took place on the Texas A&M University, College Station campus. With proactive advertising we were fortunate to recruit 28 professionals who challenged these prestigious exams accordingly. The examination results will be available to those involved within a few weeks. The NSCA Texas State Clinic, also held on the Texas A&M University College Station campus, began on May 30th and came to a successful completion by day’s end on May 31, 2014. With a total of 13 documented professional experts addressing a multitude of unique topics that complimented our state clinic theme [Strength and Conditioning Basics and Beyond: Implementing Foundational and Specialized Program Training Strategies] and helped bring in a state attendance record of 230 participants. Many aspects contributed to this respectable turnout including, but not limited to, a select few of the following factors: 1) early/often email recruitment correspondence, 2) local newspaper, television, and radio advertisements, 3) university website notifications to our community populace, 4) traditional and creative presentation topics shared by qualified professionals, 5) the state clinic was offered in a centralized location within Texas to accommodate a nice mixture of professionals, 6) amazing support staff at Texas A&M and the NSCA National Headquarters to accomplish this event, and 7) the state of the art facilities and technology provided to participants, which helped to elevate the event in a variety of ways. Please note that even though the clinic was considered a success in many ways, we did receive praise and constructive feedback regarding ways to improve certain aspects as we consider the planning and preparation of future events. In summary, it is difficult to offer an event such as this year’s Texas State Clinic without the quality assistance of so many dedicated professionals. I have to sing praises about Heather Wood, NSCA Membership Specialist, since there is no way we could have made our event possible without her amazing attitude and support since I began the Texas State Director position in October, 2013. I would also like to thank the Department of Health and Kinesiology at Texas A&M University for hosting the event. Thanks to all for helping to fight the good fight in proactively moving our profession forward.
