I have been a member of the NSCA since 1999 and actively involved for the last 11 years, gradually accepting positions that require more responsibility and accountability. I served the majority of my time on the State/Provincial Director Committee as a State Director, Regional Director, and Chair. I have also served on the NSCA-CPT Exam Development Committee (EDC), Personal Trainer Special Interest Group (SIG) Executive Council, NSCA Board of Directors, and currently serve on the Conference Committee and the Certified Special Populations Specialist™ (CSPS™) EDC. During this time I have realized the importance of having qualified, experienced, and motivated individuals serving the NSCA. The Board of Directors (BOD) position should be held in high regard and only have well-deserving individuals that have the NSCA’s best interest in mind. I would still like to provide my experience and knowledge by aiding in the selection of the individuals that will represent the NSCA at the highest level. WHAT IS YOUR UNDERSTANDING OF THE ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE OF THE NSCA? The NSCA Executive Director oversees the directors and maintains the day-to-day operations of the NSCA. The managers, supervisors, and support staff report to the directors to ensure they are providing the best customer service, products, and education to the members. Departments are categorized by education, certification, membership, conferences, marketing, and human performance center. The Executive Director reports directly to the BOD and is the only position at the NSCA Headquarters that is determined by the BOD. All directors, managers, supervisors, and support staff are hired internally. The NSCA BULLETIN | ISSUE 36.05 BOD also oversees the committees, SIGs, and other volunteer positions associated with the NSCA. The BOD meets twice annually and has several conference calls throughout the year to determine by-laws, guidelines, and procedures to ensure the NSCA is headed in a positive direction. ONE OF THE ROLES OF THE NOMINATION COMMITTEE IS TO FIND QUALIFIED CANDIDATES FOR BOARD OF DIRECTOR POSITIONS. HOW WOULD YOU GO ABOUT SEEKING OR IDENTIFYING CANDIDATES WHO WOULD BE REPRESENTATIVE OF THE DIVERSE POPULATION OF OUR MEMBERSHIP, AND CONSISTENT WITH THE NSCA MISSION STATEMENT? Over the past 14 years I have had the opportunity to meet a lot of qualified and well respected individuals in the strength and conditioning industry. I feel the networking opportunities and connections I have made will only help in providing the NSCA with strong qualified candidates to potentially serve on the BOD. I have had the opportunity to surround myself with a diverse group of individuals including personal trainers, strength coaches, rehab specialist, and researchers. These experiences will aid the Nomination Committee in selecting individuals ready to serve on the BOD. 19
