Sharing Our Impact

Resources are readily available to plan hands-on projects and connect lesson plans to various subjects. Ag in the Classroom was established by the USDA in 1981 to ensure that agriculture is firmly rooted in our education system through provision of agricultural experiences, credible resources and standards-based, hands-on lessons plans. 2017 marks the third year that Extension has partnered with local volunteers to deliver Ag in the Classroom lessons to the Elementary School. We provide a forty five minute lesson plan to each grade, once monthly. Classes are taught on the second Friday of every month from 2:45-end of school. Lesson guides are grade specific and can be modified based on volunteer or teacher request. Pictured is volunteer, Lisa Wolters on her horse Bucyrus, talking to the 4th grade.

Agriculture is not just farming; it’s a way of life. Bringing agriculture into the classroom is a perfect tool to work a diverse array of subjects into the school year. Ag in the Classroom can help break down abstract concepts such as biology, chemistry, economics and social sciences into bite sized lesson plans.
