Haute Spot A Casual Approach Andre’s Bistro and Bar HAVING LIVED IN VEGAS MY ENTIRE LIFE, I remember when Andre’s French restaurant was “the” place for a gourmet meal, beautiful surroundings and a five star experience. Situated in a tiny, refurbished house on 6th street in the downtown part of the city, this charming cottage saw patronage from celebrity to prom goer; a local’s place that eventually became known to tourists well before the mega resort invasion. Things changed in the downtown area, and Chef Andre Rochat moved along, opening fine dining estab- lishments in both the Monte Carlo and Palms hotels, enjoy- ing success for nearly 20 years despite fierce competition in the marketplace. The Monte Carlo location has since closed, allowing the entrepreneur to partner with Stacked Hospitality and move in a slightly different direction, that of a casual, neighborhood watering hole that offers reasonably priced, yet Zagat worthy eats, in an informal setting suitable for any day of the week. 66 Andre’s Bistro and Bar, located at 6115 So. Fort Apache, is approachable in both menu and surroundings. As you might expect, there’s something French going on at every turn, with Frog Legs Provencale, Seared Foie Gras, Lyonnaise Salad with duck confit, and Andre’s chocolate or Grand Marnier soufflé November/December 2017 thankfully represented on the menu. And, of course, there’s steak with myriad sauces, Andre’s famous Dover Sole, and Moules Frites. But there’s also much more casual fare, made with the same expertise as the classics, yet suitable for tavern style appetites. Burgers and sandwiches are wildy creative, including a Chicken Thai burger with coconut aioli; Andre’s signature burger covered in Swiss cheese and slathered with red onion marmalade and truffle mayo; a Lobster roll sand- wich; even a Nola inspired Muffuletta, all served with your choice of salad or duck fat French fries. Wash it down with a root beer float or homemade milkshake, or, of course, a selec- tion of the finest beer and wines available, many offered by the glass. Andre’s also offers an extensive happy hour food and drink menu from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m. daily, and buy one, get one half off pricing on all wines after 6 p.m., seven days a week. Bottomless E. Guigal Rosé, mimosa and housemade French Sangria round out their weekend brunch held from 10 a.m.- 3 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday.
