When not at the shop, Rex can be found delivering toys–often to area hospitals and police departments. All in all, Toys 4 Smiles provide their gifts to nearly 50 worthy organizations around Las Vegas, some of the larger ones being Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Foundation, Child Haven Family Services, The Salvation Army and the local Shriners chapter. I first encountered the toys over 3 years ago while in a wait- ing room at a doctor’s office. There was a basket full of them, free for the taking for any child who wanted one. With the holidays quickly approaching, it’s a perfect time to pay Rex and his staff a visit, browsing the shelves of items that showcase their workmanship. There’s an ever-rotating array of specially made, one- of-a-kind items for sale, and all proceeds go directly back into the charity’s funds. Available for reasonable prices, these works of art make great gifts, providing a thoughtful and unique offering that can’t be duplicated and will last a lifetime. It’s like visiting Santa’s workshop in our own hometown! Have some extra time on your hands and want to put those hands to good use? Stop by the shop, and they’ll be more than happy to put you to work! Or, if you might have a permanent workspace available for Rex and his crew, feel free to visit www.Toys4SmilesLasVegas.org and learn how you can contribute to the cause and the community! ◆
