NO.119 when his tank took a direct hit: left for dead, he was rescued and spent a year in hospital. On return to 4/7 RDG he served in Palestine, Libya and BAOR. Whilst an instructor at RMAS he indulged his love of cricket playing for IZ, Free Foresters and Army cricket. Retired as Captain 1956 and embarked on a successful career as a commodity broker for 27 years: he was managing director of his firm and chairman of the Rubber Exchange. He threw himself into the village community at Upton Grey: having fought the Hampshire County Council to save the village school he established the Upton Grey Educational Trust. Shortly before he died he learnt that he had been awarded the Légion d’honneur by the French Government. Survived by Susan, his wife of 65 years, and their son and
