Welcome
The thriving art scene in Wales

About Axisweb >
It’s a good moment
to launch a new digital
publication about
contemporary art in
Wales.
Cardiff Contemporary,
the first ever citywide
festival of contemporary
art, is already underway.
And Artes Mundi, the UK’s
biggest art prize, opens
its doors to the public
on 24 October.
Just as significant, however, are the
myriad galleries, studios and project
spaces across Wales that nurture
artists and makers all year round, giving
them a vital opportunity to show new
work and widen their influence.
In this publication we highlight these
and many other developments, so as to
give readers in the rest of the UK and far beyond - special insight into a
contemporary art scene that has never
felt more exciting and cohesive.
Our thanks go to Arts Council Wales for
the project funding that has made this
possible. Digital platforms transcend
the usual limitations of time and place,
connecting artists with audiences in
ways we couldn’t have imagined even 15
years ago. It’s a continually fascinating
place to be.
