PWGA NOTES & QUOTES
Spring 2015
Hello from Monterey/South Bay!
by
Cheryl Wecker
Activities in the Monterey/South Bay Area are just getting started for 2015! In
February we held the first area workshop of the season at Eagle Ridge Golf Course.
Wendy Stuart, PGA Director of Golf Operations at Quail Lodge & Golf Club spoke
about how she got interested in golf (thanks to her grandmother) and her experiences
as a woman in the golf industry. Congratulations to our area 2014 Most Improved
Golfers, 18 hole Winner Janice Mahoney from Palo Alto WGC and 9 hole Winner Alice
Gonsalves from Tuesday Toppers. At this year’s workshops PWGA joined up with the
American Heart Association to help promote the AHA’s “Go RED” campaign talking
about the signs of heart attacks in women. A special thank you to the 71 ladies who
attended the workshop for buying raffle tickets for the great prize packages! Golf
lessons from Wendy and Katherine Marren, PGA Director of Golf Instruction at Quail
Lodge & Golf Club, restaurant gift cards and many more prizes, we raised over $1,000 for the AHA “Go RED” campaign. I would also
like to thank the PWGA Executive Board members, Joanne Holman, Jane Sullwold, Bobbi Hanada, Andi Bristow (Rules Rock!) and
Caroline O’Brien for their presentations. You are why PWGA is “Not Just Playing A Round”!
The Monterey/South Bay Area play days are just getting started; April at Spring Hills, May at Laguna Seca, June at Paso Robles, July at
Crazy Horse, August at Rancho Canada, September at Old Del Monte, October at Monterey Pines. I encourage as many ladies as I
possibly can to come out and play this year. We play partners Stableford points, so sign up with a friend. League play points, winners
circle points and sweeps are available at every play day, so come out and play!
I would like to thank the Monterey/South Bay Area Tournament Director, Clare Shaffer for the great job she does organizing the play
days. She is why our play days are a great success! Are you interested in helping out at area play days? I would love to hear from you!
In 2014, I was honored to present 6 PWGA junior girls’ golf grants to Monterey/South Bay Area high school girl’s golf programs
totaling $2,560. Your support at PWGA major tournaments raffle program and your Closest to the Pin donations at our area play days
keeps this very important program going. From your CTP participation last year, I will be presenting a $400 donations check in June
to the grant program. Thank You!
I am looking forward to a successful 2015 season; see you on the golf course.
