of abstraction. I believe my medium and mark making choice allow the viewer to access a sense of personal realms of subconscious; a direct reflection of my experience of reality.

What is the role of technique in your practice? In particular are there any constraints or rules that you follow when creating?

The primary foundations of my paintings involve figure-ground and gestural composition. The starting point of my work combines an intuitive choosing of colour palette, brush/material, and kinesthetic movements. Key aspects of my work are gestural associations, resemblance, patterns, synchronicity of marks, and the overall visual experience for the viewer. I address the interplay between identification and dominance of the marks and the autographic placement of those forms within spatial orientations. My primary goal is for viewers to experience how I am simultaneously locating these marks in both physical and aesthetic space.

How do you see the relationship between emotional and intellectual perception of your work? In particular, how much do you consider the immersive nature of the viewing experience?

The world as it appears to us is not the ultimate reality, and through my work I intend on uncovering and sharing hidden perceptions of our world. Work in abstract concerns itself with both visibility and the varying manifestations of appearance. The emotional and spiritual perceptions of my work in gestural abstraction is meant to challenge how viewers perceive both their own distinctly human experiences and the real simultaneous projection. Constructing an extensive space which a viewer can place both their intellectual and emotional perceptions into allows particular insight into one’s own experience. This experience is simply a manifestation of conscious and subconscious perceptions of reality- sensations which are perceived differently for each viewer.

Thanks a lot for your time and for sharing your thoughts, Sheena. Finally, would you like to tell us readers something about your future projects? How do you see your work evolving?

Thank you for your time and this opportunity to reach out to your readers! I intend to continue exploring publications by Paul Crowther, Jean-Luc Marion and Paul M.W. Hackett that influence my artistic production in an insightful manner. I will be expanding my technique by incorporating varying materials that help to create impressions and colour palates. My goal for this year is to continue exploring exhibition opportunities. My online catalog of current and previous work is accessible at https://sheenabajaria.com/ and on Instagram @sheenabaj. Thank you again!

It's difficult for me to speak about race and ethnic identity. But I can say that today we miss more and more this notion of “to be here and now” which is more present in some cultures ... By practising Performance Art, it's my way to be connected

a body alive. And I need to do something with that...

My sensation about life sometimes is too intense then I need to transform this intensity in some action. Some artistic action... If people can take something from this action this is great... but I don't want to give them “a specific message” or to control the translation of my experience.
