Northwest Teamwork | Pride | Excellence INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT Successful endings and beautiful beginnings By Dr. Ryder Warren Superintendent of Schools We have ended a phenomenal school year, and I hope you and your family are enjoying some special time together this summer. Your Northwest ISD school and district leaders are already working very hard to prepare for the 2018-19 school year. It may seem hard to believe, but the start of the new school year is just around the corner. In the middle of our preparations, let me take just a moment to reflect on the 2017-18 school year. Our students and staff have a lot to be proud of as this past year brought many successes. As an example of this, I hope you enjoy reading about some of their accolades, such as our National Merit Finalists Zoe Bass, Haniyah Burney and Tobey Mathis. From academics to extracurricular activities, Northwest ISD students excelled, and our school pride and traditions grew along with our students’ knowledge and understanding. From the success of our athletic playoff teams to our fine art achievements, it was fun to watch our students’ hard work pay off at the state level and beyond. For the parents and caregivers of our new graduates, we know this is an exciting (but also maybe a little sad) time in our lives. As one of those parents, we watch our babies grow up, celebrate their successes, and stand in awe when graduation has finally arrived. I am so proud of our 2018 graduates, and my family and I were especially honored to be part of the first graduating class of V.R. Eaton High School. Thanks to the vision of our NISD Board of Trustees and the dedication and support of our wonderful teachers and staff, I have no doubt that our graduates will go on to do great things. As I stated during graduation, I feel we will all be honored to live in a world this group of young men and women lead. Finally, I want to recognize your school board for approving the 2018-22 Strategic Framework, which will provide the future direction for our district. Grounded in the belief that kids come first, NISD is now focused on the vision of empowering learners and leaders to positively impact the world. I am excited to be transitioning to our new core beliefs, vision, mission and strategic goals, and we are working to engrain these into the culture of our schools. As we take a moment to celebrate the successful ending of the 2017-18 school year, know that exciting plans are already underway for next year. I am looking forward to the 2018-19 school year and all the learning and engagement that will certainly happen. Thank you for supporting Northwest ISD, and I can’t wait to see our students return on Aug. 27. n 5
