School Spotlight: Thompson Elementary School Thompson Elementary School serves families in the central portion of Northwest ISD, in the Sendera Ranch community, where it encourages students to stand out and make their own path, just like its namesake, John Caruthers Thompson. J.C. Thompson was a longtime Haslet resident who lived on 250 acres in what is now Sendera Ranch and the Willow Springs Golf Course. Mr. Thompson was a leader in the local business community as well as a devoted family man and staunch advocate for public education. He raised cattle on his ranch, but horses were his true passion, which he passed to his children. Mr. Thompson pushed for the consolidation of local school districts into what would become Northwest ISD, and he became one of its earliest school board members, becoming a trustee in 1950. At Thompson, teachers encourage an engaged community to help provide a positive learning environment where students are prepared for success in an ever-changing world. The school library is also a focal point, as students can take part in 22 the Ultimate Book Challenge to read as many books as possible. Thompson students are welcome to take part in several extracurricular activities, including a Destination Imagination problem-solving team, the JCT Trebeles choir and an art club. n Established: 2011 Mascot: Trailblazers Colors: Light Blue and White
