The performance was the culmination of their hard work in the summer camp. DeMareus made national headlines the next week when he rushed for more than 400 yards against McKinney North. Fans from Northwest High School attend the football team’s home game against McKinney North on Sept. 8. The team won the game to start the year with a 2-0 record. Hughes and other Northwest ISD schools donated supplies to various schools and organizations affected by Hurricane Harvey in late August. Families attend the first day of the 2017-18 academic year at Thompson Elementary School. Northwest ISD now enrolls more than 23,000 students, up more than 1,000 students from the same time last year. 16
