THE URGENCY ROOM The Urgency Room ( UR ) model focuses on a traditionally underserved patient population . Patients now have a broad range of options when it comes to where they receive medical treatment and UR strives to fill the gap between urgent care and the emergency department . “ Historically patients didn ’ t have a choice when it came to access of care . If clinics were closed and you needed immediate medical attention , the ER was the only option . At UR , we have the expertise in medical decisionmaking paired with the necessary tools onsite to diagnose and treat a broad range of illnesses and injuries ,” says Medical Director Carolyn McClain , MD .
Open 365 days a year , UR is equipped with a CT scanner , x-ray , ultrasound and lab and can care for patients of all ages , quickly and efficiently . The expertise of these ER physicians , combined with their onsite capabilities has provided a greatly needed medical alternative for this community .
In 2016 , almost 30,000 patients were treated at the Vadnais Heights ’ UR . Not just Vadnais Heights patients utilize the facility , but also patients from the surrounding areas of White Bear Lake , Shoreview , and additional communities extending past Hugo and Forest Lake .
