tion and subsequent prosecution of that employee with those stolen credit card accounts. Additionally, other questionable employees (“co-conspirators!”) in the practice were let go and strict new fraud prevention guidelines were introduced into the practice. The end result is that the practice became more profitable and added a second doctor within a year as a direct result of the enhanced practice methods and controls. Get serious if you suspect fraud! Unfortunately, too often a casual approach is taken and the fraudster mysteriously disappears and moves on to another similar healthcare business. That same fraudster has access to money, supplies, drugs and confidential patient files all over again. A smart fraudster will not be discovered for the next three years or more. Stealing no more than three percent of the busi- ness revenues makes that fraudster almost undetectable. A fraud investigation quantifies and categorizes elements of fraud in a dental practice. It uncovers who is involved, what kind of fraud schemes are at work, where it all began, when a fraud was committed, and how much damage has occurred. Get more serious about those committing fraud! Dr. Richard Lyschik’s practice transi- tion, staff training and doctor coaching services are customized for the single dentist, as well as the multi-practice owner and entrepreneur.
