Case 3
This is a case of a 71-year-old male who presented with a history of hot,
cold, and chewing sensitivity. Tooth #18 was sensitive to the bite,
percussion and cold tests. The pre-operative radiograph revealed severe
dilaceration of the mesial root. The GentleWave procedure was completed
in one visit with minimal shaping of the canal system.
Pre-GentleWave Procedure
A 71-year-old female presented with multiple large radiolucent lesions
associated with the root end of teeth #12-14. There is significant abfraction
of teeth #12-14. Tooth #13 was previously endodontically treated two years
ago and is currently asymptomatic. Tooth #15 had recurrent decay on the
lingual crown margin and it was symptomatic when the patient was first
seen at our office, therefore this tooth was treated first. The diagnosis for
tooth #15 was pulp necrosis with symptomatic apical periodontitis.
Treatment was then followed by tooth #12 and then #14. Treatment of tooth
#13 is being considered next. All treatments were a single visit with the
GentleWave Procedure. At five-month recall, the patient is asymptomatic
and teeth #12 and 14 showed radiographic healing.
Post-GentleWave Procedure
Case 4
This is a case of a 64-year-old male who presented with a history of chew-
ing sensitivity and a toothache that kept him up all night. The diagnosis was
pulp necrosis with symptomatic apical periodontitis. The treatment was a
single visit GentleWave. Note the microfine anatomy in the apical one-
third, midroot lateral canal of the mesial root and slight internal resorption
that had occurred, as seen by the balloon-shaped fill of the coronal third of
the mesial root.
