community news Texas Mission of Mercy for Texas Veterans November 11-12, 2016 by Dr. Sloan Hildebrand 4017 South Lancaster Road, Dallas, TX 75216 There may not be a better time than now to honor our Texas veterans for their service to our country and for fighting to preserve the freedom that we all are blessed to enjoy. We have all been affected in one way or another by the unnecessary and tragic loss of lives in the past months and years within our own community and around the world. It is time to team up together once again and start doing things for others by serving and helping those in need. What better opportunity than to do this as an appreciative effort for those who have served us faithfully for so many years. This will be a free two-day dental service event held down the street from the VA Hospital in Dallas, specifically set up for Texas veterans on Veterans Day. We need over 100 dentists and 1,000 volunteers to make this event a huge success. Please partner with us and bring your colleagues, staff, friends and family to serve those veterans in need of the most basic dental care. You can sign up for two full days, one day or even half days if needed. This experience will be uniquely rewarding for all of those that attend and to serve our veterans in our home town is something you should not miss. We need you on Veterans Day this fall to help! On November 11-12, 2016 the TMOM will partner with the TDA Smiles Foundation and the DCDS Foundation to serve together. Since inception, TMOM has provided over 33,000 Texans with over $17.8M worth of charitable dental care at 62 mission events. Texas Mission of Mercy for Texas Veterans: Dallas will be the first TMOM to specifically focus on treating the dental needs of a target population, veterans. Currently, only 10% of veterans living in Texas qualify for dental benefits. That leaves an overwhelming number of our bravest men and women in need of pain-relieving services that can be unaffordable to those living on a fixed income. Through a partnership with the Dallas area Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) and the Homeless Veterans Services of Dallas (HVSD), we would be able to identify these heroes to attend the event. Our goal for the Texas Veterans TMOM is to treat around 1,000 patients, in hopes to relieve their dental pain and restore them to oral health. Also, this TMOM will be able to provide a limited number of removable partial dentures so that some patients leave with new smiles. Restoring a person's smile means restoring their self-confidence and increases their chances of obtaining gainful employment to end the cycle of poverty. Again, please partner with us and give back to those who have already given us so much. If not now, when?
