How have orthodontic appliances
changed over the years?
Orthodontic treatment options have
evolved miles from metal bands that
wrap around the teeth. Not only have
traditional options gained popularity
with “colors” that you can adorn your
braces with, options have become more
aesthetic. Today we are able to
straighten teeth with clear ceramic
braces, lingual braces (braces behind the
teeth), and Invisalign (clear aligners) for
patients who prefer their braces to be
nearly invisible.
What is the key to your success?
In my opinion one of the biggest keys to
being successful is to surround yourself
with great people. My philosophy in
orthodontics is to treat each of my
patients as I would treat one of my
family members. Taking the time to
listen and customize a treatment plan
for each individual, assures that the
patient’s main concern is addressed.
What motivates you each day?
My family. My wife and I have eight
wonderful children who keep us young,
although we do not feel that way at
times! Having children ranging from six
months to 16 years has given me a
special perspective on life, allowing me
to relate to patients of all ages.
treatment are Propel and Acceledent.
Propel is an in office procedure that can
be used to stimulate the bone to
remodel faster and therefore accelerate
your tooth movement. Acceledent is
used in the comfort of your own home
for 20 minutes a day. Both options are
conservative options to possibly
accelerate time in braces or Invisalign.

What new development in dentistry
excites you the most for its
potential effect on patient care?
Intraoral scanners and 3D printers are
some of the greatest technological
advances in dentistry and orthodontics
today. They have significantly improved
the patient’s experience in our office.
When discussing treatment, many
parents and patients show concern
regarding the possibility of having to
take impressions. With the scanners
used today, we can avoid messy,
uncomfortable impressions. Most
importantly, appliances like Invisalign
and expanders have a better more
precise fit than with traditional
alginate impressions.

How has new technology changed
orthodontic treatment options?
