from the publisher Ray Bryant PHOTOGRAPHY Tina Cauller Welcome to the Special Issue 2016, Dentistry 360: The Past, Present and Future of Dentistry. Join us as North Texas Dentistry takes a journey to explore this noble profession by looking at where it has been, where it is, and where it is going. With the assistance of Baylor College of Dentistry we take a look back at the early years in dentistry through a timeline of significant events and photos. With a touch of Texas influence we chart legislative changes and the introduction of products, materials, instruments and medications that were game-changers in the early years. It was not an easy time for the dentist or patient. Gradually we migrate to the present day workings of the dental practice. Through a series of Custom Profiles of leaders in the dental community and print advertising, we look at the many parts and people that make a practice run smoothly and effectively. The face of the traditional solo dental practice is changing into many different styles. Corporate dentistry is becoming more prevalent as are multispecialty group practices and doctors having multiple locations. WRITING / DESIGN A discussion of the present easily evolves to a look at the future. Leading doctors in various specialties offer their perspective on what lies ahead for the future. New technology, equipment and philosophies are moving the profession to a place where patients will no longer “dread” going to the dentist. The Special Issue 2016 provides an inspiring look of the impressive leaders in the North Texas dental community and producing it was a fun adventure. Enjoy the read! Keep smiling and have a great day!
