Hon. Joe Straus, Texas Speaker of the House, addresses the 2014 North Texas Water Summit Water Summit Over 300 people attended the sold-out 2014 North Texas Water Summit. The Summit was divided into two blocks: Water Policy and Water Innovations. Highlights from the day included a keynote address from Hon. Joe Straus, Speaker of the Texas House of Representatives; a presentation on using big data for water resource management by Dr. David Lary of UT Dallas; and a panel discussion about Texas water policy featuring TCEQ Commissioner Toby Baker and TWDB Deputy Executive Administrator Dr. Robert Mace, moderated by Neena Satija of the Texas Tribune. The Dallas Morning News, Dallas Business Journal and the Texas Tribune provided coverage of the summit. 2013 Working for Clean Air Awards Peterbilt Motor Company was named the “North Texas Clean Air Champion” as part of the 2013 Working for Clean Air Awards. In its ninth year, the awards program recognized organizations in the region that demonstrated outstanding efforts to improve local air quality. More than 25 organizations representing over 75,000 employees in the North Texas region applied for the 2013 awards. The keynote presenter for the November awards reception was Dan Frakes, Manager of Vehicle Fuels & Advanced Technology Policy for General Motors, speaking about the future of American automobile technology. General Motors offered test drives of the Chevy Volt during the event. In addition, Peterbilt Motors and DFW Airport showcased their alternative fuel vehicles.
