Air Monitors
At the direction of the Texas Legislature and in collaboration
with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, the
North Texas Commission has continued to operate and
expand the North Texas Air Monitoring Network. The network
is composed of 21 air quality monitoring stations across the
greater North Texas area. In addition to taking standard
meteorological readings, the stations also measure 85
different air pollutants.
Fully operational since 2013,
the stations indicate that none
of the pollutants measured by
the network have exceeded
State of Texas health limits.

Green Parking
As part of a grant from the US Department of Energy and
the North Central Texas Council of Governments, the NTC is
distributing to local businesses signage to designate spaces
in their parking lot as “Preferred Parking for Alternative Fuel
Vehicles.” This parking sign program is meant to promote
the use of alternative fuel vehicles (AFVs) in North Texas
and improve air quality. Companies that place one of the
“AFV-Preferred” parking signs in their lot are eligible for points
toward LEED clean building certification. The parking spaces
will be incorporated into a smartphone app for AFV drivers that
was created as part of the NTx Apps Challenge. Over 60 parking
signs have been distributed so far.
