GREAT FALLS SHOP REPORT
The word around here
is bugs. In my snapshot of time fishing
the Missouri River, this has been a
great spring for dry fly fishing. The
BWO’s and March Browns have kept
the trout feeding high and happy for
several hours daily. Flows have been
low and clear for the season. Runoff
has not been a factor. River temps
warmed quickly this spring. How
conditions play out from here will
depend on precipitation, not snow
melt. We anticipate an accelerated
schedule of water temperature and
bug hatches as we move into summer.
As June unfolds, we will expect to see
caddis and PMD’s become dominant
players. PMD’s can provide morning
spinner falls and evening hatches.
