Is your guide getting the “ Stink Eye ?” Does it seem like anglers are staring at you as you float by ? Was that a rock I just heard entering the water ? Yikes ! Just like any kind of sporting pursuit , guided fly fishing has rules . Nothing too onerous , mind you . Yet , among the brotherhood of guides and outfitters , common courtesy is required .

For example : hover nymphing a pod of steelhead from your boat will get you the stink-eye on the Methow , every time . Why ? Because these ‘ brothers ’ must all share the resource with their clientele . Hogging it at the expense of another is not cool .
Furthermore , if some have misbehaved in some way , they ’ re not likely to be informed by other guiding operations about the best fishing . Neighborly guiding is crucial because in many guided fishing arenas , guides depend upon one another to find the fish and figure out how to catch them . So , if you can get the ‘ word on the street ’ ( again , talk to local fly shops and anglers ) about a certain guide , it may pay you back in fish caught if she is Stink- Eye Proof .
